The initial velocity of the train, u = 36 km/h = 36×100060×60=10 m/s

The final velocity of the train, v = 72 km/h = 72×100060×60=20 m/s

Using the equation of motion,

v = u + at

⇒20 = 10 + a×20

⇒20a = 20-10 = 10

⇒a = 10/20 = 0.5 m/s2

Therefore, the distance travelled,

s=ut+12at2=10×20+12×0.5×202=200+100=300 m Hope it helps
