cost of clock = x

discount = x X 20/100 = x/5

x/5 = 15

x = 5 x 15 = 75

price of clock before discount = 75

Amount he paid = 75 - 15 = Rs 60

Let the total amount be 'x'.

Given that he saves 15 rupees on purchase, when a discount of 20% is given.

= > x - (20% of x) + 15 = x

= > x - 20% of x = x - 15

= > x - (20x/100) = x - 15

= > (100x - 20x)/100 = x - 15

= > 80x/100 = x - 15

= > 80x = 100(x - 15)

= > 80x = 100x - 1500

= > -20x = -1500

= > x = 1500/20

= > x  = 75.

Hence, the amount = 75 - 15 = 60.

Therefore, the total amount he paid = 60 rupees.

Hope this helps!
