(i) In ΔABC

tan 45° = AB/BC

1 = AB/BC

BC = AB


(ii) In ΔABD

tan 30° = AB/BD

1/√3 = AB/BD

BD = √3AB

⇒ BD - BC = 2k

⇒ √3AB - AB = 2k

⇒ (√3 - 1)AB = 2k

⇒ AB = 2k/√3 - 1

         = (2k/√3 - 1) * (√3 + 1)/(√3 + 1)

         = 2k(√3 + 1)/(√3 - 1)(√3 + 1)

         = 2k(√3 + 1)/3 - 1

         = 2k(√3 + 1)/2

         = k(√3 + 1) m.
