Put the polynomial 2−y

2 − {y}^3 +2y^8 in standard form. The ter with the highest exponent should be first, and the term with the lowest exponent should be last. This will help us see which term has the exponent with the largest value. Therefore, the standard form is:

2 {y}^8 −{y}^3 − {y}^2 +2

The power is simply number in the exponent. In the polynomial, 2 {y}^8 − {y}^3 −{y}^2 + 2 , the power of the first term is 8which is the largest exponent of y and hence it is the degree of given polynomial.
