Answer:

Answer option 1. that is 0.74 seconds.

Step-by-step explanation:

Stone initial speed = u = 5 m/s

Speed on the top = v = 0 m/s.

Acceleration = acceleration due to gravity = g = 9.8 m/sec²

From the laws of motion, we have

v² – u² = 2as

Substituting above values, we get

-25 = -2*g*s

S = 25/2g meters.

Time taken by upward journey is calculated by

v = u + at

0 = 5 - gt

t = 5/g

Since the stone was thrown from 1 meter above ground, while coming back, the stone should reach s+1 meters to come to ground.

Now from the top point, u = 0 a = g.

s = ut + at²/2

(25/2g) + 1 = 0 + gt²/2

25/g + 2 = gt²

t² = 25/g² + 2/g = (25+2g)/g²

t = √(25+2g)/g

Total time taken for first stone to reach groud = 5/g + SQRT(25+2g)/g

= 0.51 + 0.68 = 1.19.

for second stone to be dropped from 1m height, the time taken is calculated

s = ut + at²/2

1 = 0 + gt²/2

t² =  2/g

t = √(2/g) = 0.45 sec.

So second stone should be dropped after 1.19 – 0.45 = 0.74 seconds.
