Anti-colonial struggle or anti-colonialism refers to protest or fight against colonial rulers by the suppressed colonies. Anti-colonial struggle picked up its momentum during the 20th century. The fight against colonial powers started due to rise of nationalism in the European countries. Rise of Facism and Nazism are the significant landmark which helped in spread of nationalist ideas in the colonies under foreign rules across the world. The nationalist ideas have very strong impact in the colonies of Africa, Asia and Latin America and that helped in began anti-colonial movements in their respective territories for self-determination. These struggles eventually resulted into decolonization which means freedom of colonies from imperial subjugation. Decolonization is understood as an open process which prompted structural transformations of the colonies as well as of the imperial nations after the end of formal colonial rule.[1] The imperial set up across the world became destabilized due to various conflicts in Asia and wars among European nations. As result of this the scope for anti-colonial movement became wider and stronger. In addition to this, the Dutch supremacy in Indonesia, French in Indochina and British in South Asia became weak as China wanted to extent its imperial control over the Southeast Asian regions in 1930’s.
