Given,
Ratio of boys and girls= 9/5
Let the Number of boys be x and number of girls be y.
Now,
x/y = 9/5
y = 5x/9................(I)
Again it is given that The number of girls is 12 less than the number of boys,
So, it means that if we add 12(students suppose) in number of girls that it will be equal to the number of boys,
Therefore,
y+12 = x
5x/9 + 12 = x
12 = x - 5x/9
12 = (9x-5x)/9
12 = 4x/9
4x= 12*9
x= 27
·.·y = 5x/9
y = (5*27)/9
y= 15
Number of boys = 27
Number of girls = 15
.·. Total Strength of Class= 27+ 15
= 42
