y^2 + y / 3 = 2

on multiplying by 3 both sides we get

3 × y^2 + 3 × y / 3 = 3 × 2

=> 3y^2 + y = 6

=> 3y^2 + y - 6 = 0

Here a = 3 , b = 1 and c = - 6

D = discriminant = b^2 - 4ac

= 1^2 - 4 × 3 × ( - 6 )

= 1 + 72 = 73

Using quadratic formula

y = ( -b + - root ( D ) ) / 2a = ( - 1 + - root ( 73 )) / 2 × 3

= ( -1 + - root ( 73 ) ) / 6
