All the three women in the story have some common traits in their character. They belong to the same class of people. The value of honesty, integrity and compassion. The old lady in the novel wants to go to Kashi and has been saving money all along. She does not hesitate to donate the money to an orphan who needs the money. She sacrifices her dream for the poor girl. Sudha's grandmother was not able to go to school and so she can't read and write, but she sent all her children to school. She understood the need for education and sacrificed herself for them. Sudha too is not behind in these virtues as she understands her grandmother's urge to learn to read and write and sacrifices her time to teach her grandmother. The qualities of these ladies are very essential in the society today. When everyone is becoming selfish and self centred, such virtues are needed for the proper functioning of the society as a whole.
