Some birds like the pigeon can fly by jumping vertically and flapping its wingsuntil it is aloof.Birds are capable of flying not only because of their wings, but also because of the waythey fly. For example, an interesting type of bird is an albatross, which accelerates like aplane. Its wings have a thick front edge which enables it to glide through the air. Theosprey beats its wings whilst fishing, which produces more drag. But the osprey changesthe position of the fish affects the streamline. The swan has to land onwater for safety. When close to impact, the swan uses its feet as brakes and uses thewater as a cushion. Griffin vultures must have perfect timing and co-ordination.
