Here, PQRS is a quadrilateral.

It is given that a line through S is parallel to PR meets QR produced in X.

As shown in the below figure, PRS and PRX are on the same base PR and between the same parallels as PR is parallel to SX.

ar(PRX)  = ar(PRS)

Now adding  ar (PQR) to both sides, we get

ar(PRX) + ar(PQR) = ar(PRS) + ar(PQR)

⇒ ar(PQX) = ar(quad. PQRS)

Hence proved.
