2. Fertilisers are different

from manure by the following points:

(i) Manure is a natural substance obtained by the decomposed animal wastes whereas fertilizers are human-made inorganic salts or organic compounds.

(ii) Manures can be prepared at homes or fields. On the other hand, the fertilizers can be made only in factories.

3. The microorganism which can fix atmospheric nitrogen in the soil is Rhizobium.

4. Some of the uses of microorganisms in our lives are:

•They are used in winemaking, baking, pickling and other food-making processes.

•Alcoholic fermentation by yeast is widely used in the preparation of wine and bread.

•A bacterium Lactobacillus promotes the formation of curd.
