The correct answer is option(B) 25 ml

GIVEN

Amount of CH₄ = 5ml

Amount of C₂H₆ = 10ml

TO FIND

Total amount of CO₂ formed.

SOLUTION

we can simply solve the above problem as follows -

We know that,

Volume of reactants and volume of gaseous products formed is directly proportional to their stoichiometric constant.

The combustion reaction of Methane is as follows-

CH₄ + 2O₂ ---------------> 4CO₂ + 6H₂O

This means -

1 ml of methane on reaction with 2 ml of oxygen produces 4 ml of Carbon dioxide and 6 ml of water vapors.

We can also write it as -

1 ml of CH₄ = 4 ml OF CO₂

5 ml of CH₄ will produce, 4 × 5 = 20 ml of CO₂

Similarly, The combustion reaction of Methane is as follows-

2C₂H₆ + 5O₂ ----------------> 4CO₂+ 6H₂0

So,

2mL of C₂H₆ = 4 mL of CO₂

10 mL of C₂H₆ = (4/2)×10 = 20 ml of CO₂.

Therefore, 5+ 20 = 25mL of CO₂ will be produced.
