Q: different between calcination and roasting?​

Answer:

Roasting is the process in which the ore is heated below its melting point in presence of air to oxidise the impurities. Calcination is the process of heating the ore below its melting point an absence of air to remove volatile impurities like arsenic etc.

Roasting:
(i) Ore is heated in excess air..
(ii) This is used for sulphide ores..
(iii) SO2 is produced along with metal oxide..

Calcination:
(i) Ore is heated in absence of air or in limited supply of air..
(ii) This is used for carbonate ores..
(iii) CO2 is produced along with metal oxide..
