Candidates who scored a minimum of 774 marks (which is 49%) in the mains written exam would have cleared it. This is subject to the candidates securing at least 10% marks in each of the seven papers namely, Essay, GS I, GS II, GS III, GS IV, Optional I and Optional II.
Percentage of marks you need to clear UPSC CSE Mains (Written) In 2018, a general category candidate had to score 774+ marks out of 1750 to qualify for UPSC interview.

The UPSC Prelims cutoff marks are based on the General Studies-I paper only. The marks in GS-II and CSAT papers are not considered for merit ranking as they are qualifying in nature. Candidates must score at least 33% marks in GS-II to be eligible for the UPSC Mains exam.
