Place the liquid container above a gas burner. Evaporate the liquid water.
In the container there will be nothing left if it's pure water. If it's salt water then salt will be left. It will be non sticky crystal white powder.
If it's sugar solution then as water evaporates the remains will be sticky and it will turn brown and then black.
