Q. what are the factors which affect the rate of diffusion. Explain them.
Answers
Temperature
As temperature increases the average kinetic energy of particles increases. Greater kinetic energies lead to increased velocities.
Density of the Diffusing Substance
Density is defined as the amount of material that exists within a given volume. Regions of high density contain a greater number of particles per unit volume than regions of lower density.
Medium of Diffusion
Diffusion also depends upon the medium in which it takes place. Physically, the particles within the medium act as a barrier to diffusion
Concentration Gradient
The concentration of a substance is defined as the number of solute molecules that can be found within a given volume.
the factors which affect the rate of diffusion are-:
1. temperature
when temperatures increases the molecules move more faster and hence the rate of diffusion increases so, when temperature increases rate of diffusion increases.
2.concentration gradient
when concentration gradient increases rate of diffusion increases as the driving force of molecules increases due to concentration gradient.
3.particle size
when the volume increases more than surface area i.e the particle size increases then the rate of diffusion increases.
4.distance
when distance increases rate of diffusion decreases and vice versa.
