A nuclear force is a force which hold proton & neutron strongly inside a nucleus.

It's properties are :-

  • It hold the neutron together which is strongest interaction .

  • It is having a very less range of 2-3fm from neutron.

  • It's potential energy changes with change in distance.

  • The nuclear force does not depend on the charges. eg nn force, pp force, pn force .

  • The binding energy is same for most mass number which shows saturation effect neutron interact thier nearby electron .

  • Nuclear forces between antiparallel spin are weak but between parallel spins they are strong.

  • Force arises between neutrons is due to the exchange of mesons (particles) .

  • If neucleons are joined by the center, nuclear force does not act between them.
