Question 34:
An electric heater is connected to the 230 V mains supply. A current of 8 A flows through the heater.
(a) How much charge flows around the circuit each second ?
(b) How much energy is transferred to the heater each second ?

Given...

p.d. = 230 V,

I = 8 A

(a)

from the formula....

I = Q/t

Q = I × t

Q=  8 × 1 = 8C

charge flows around the circuit each second is 8C

(b)

p.d. = 230 V

I = 8 A

we know.. energy transferred = work done

so from the formula...

p.d. = work done/charge moved

work done = p.d. × charge moved

work done = 230 × 8 = 1840J

so the energy transferred is 1840J
