Heya,

Here the mystery is the story made up by Gerrard in order to escape from the intruder. In that story he said that he was also a criminal similar to the intruder .He asked why else would he not meet any trades people and was all over different places. He explained that when everything was bad for him he commited a murder to manage the situation. To his bad luck one of his men was caught and arrested . He said that he was about to face some trouble that night and thus decided to escape.
