HELLO!

(a) The lowest frequency in Balmer series corresponds to the transition from n = 2 to n = 3. Check out the attachment for the answer.

(b) For hybridisation, of carbon atom, take care of the following points:

All four sigma bonds: sp³

Three sigma & one pi bond: sp²

Two sigma and two pi bonds: sp

Now to answer your question, from left to right, the hybridisation of the carbon atoms are:

sp, sp, sp², sp³

(The left most bond is a triple bond).

(c) Electron affinity is the energy released when an electron is inserted into the valence shell of an isolated gaseous atom. Carbon has more electron affinity than nitrogen because Carbon is one electron short of it's half filled stability (as the electronic configuration of carbon is 2p²), whereas nitrogen is already has the half filled stability. So, more elnergy is released when an electron is inserted in the p orbital of carbon than in nitrogen.

Thanks!
