HELLO FRIEND HERE IS YOUR ANSWER,,,,,,
Larynx or the voice box of the neck region is opening into laryngo-pharynx trough a slit-like slight opening which can be widened through special muscles called the intrinsic muscles. Glottis can be closed firmly by a large leaf-like cartilaginous flap structure called as epiglottis which also has the function of covering respiratory and digestive system when performing peristaltic movements until it reaches the entrance of either systems.
Larynx has C-shaped thyroid cartilage on sides and in front of it where it can be felt as or the laryngeal prominence (medical terminology or medical language of Adam's Apple) the name is due to the showing or "prominent" protrusion, lump, extended body part or projecting bump shown beneath the skin structure which (as told before) gives or forms in the parallelized angle at the thyroid gland which is prominent more in male individuals and likely showing the dominance of a lump in female individuals. Adam's Apple has a very important function as it is lying within the range of thyroid cartilage, they give assistance to the anterior part of Larynx and protection of walls around the neck and most importantly protecting the Vocals or Vocal Cords (discussed below) as they are formed posterior to the position of Adam's Apple. Another main function is prominent in Male individuals, it plays a role in assisting puberty in adolescents and adults (later stages) by Deepening the texture and pitch and formation of voice making it sound harder and rougher also by growing in size with Larynx or laryngeal prominence.
There (thyroid cartilage) resides a pair of triangular arytenoid (or arytaenoid) cartilages (on back of it), a ring-like cricoid cartilage and a pair of nodule-like cartilages of Santorini (forms at the upper end of arytaenoid cartilages). Speaking of it, Internally or internal structures, Larynx has ciliated columnar mucous epithelial linings and a pair of (those are attached to thyroid cartilages and arytaenoid cartilages). Vocal cords become thickened or the linings get more thicker resulting in a deeper and lower pitched voices in adult male individuals. Whereas in Female individuals the Vocal Cords are shortened and much much thinner than the males which produce a higher pitched voice with no deepness (exceptions are always there for those with a "change" in gender or hormone disbalance, etc...). The Voice is produced by the passage of air between the Vocal Cords and some modulations or modulatory alternations created by tongue, teeth, lips and nasal cavity.
