Given:

Rachel ate 3/5 part of an apple and remaining apple was eaten by her brother Shyla

To find:

How much part of apple did Shyla ate = ?

☞ Who had larger share of apple = ?

☞ By how much = ?

Solution:

Note: Fractions always add up to one if no other numbers are mentioned

Here, there is only one apple mentioned so the parts eaten should add up to 1

Let x be the Apple eaten by Shyla

 \\  \\   \dfrac{3}{5}  + x = 1 \\  \\ x = 1 -  \dfrac{3}{5}  \\  \\ x =  \dfrac{5 - 3}{5}  \\  \\ x =  \dfrac{2}{5}

Thus, shyla ate 2/5 part of apple

When we divide,

 \\ \\ Rachel \: ate = \dfrac{3}{5} \\ \\ = 0.6 \: part \: of \: apple

 \\ \\ Shyla \: ate \: = \dfrac{2}{5} \\ \\ = 0.4 \: part \: of \: apple

Rachel had larger part of apple

To find by how much we have to subtract Rachel part with Shyla part

 \\ \\ = 0.6 - 0.4 \\ \\ = 0.2

Rachel had 0.2 part of apple more than Shyla

Answer:

Shyla ate 2/5 or 0.4 part of apple

Rachel had the larger share

Rachel had 0.2 part of apple more than Shyla
