Rainwater harvesting has declined in Rajasthan after the construction and operation of the Rajasthan Canal, also known as Indira Gandhi Canal. This is by far the largest irrigation project in the world, especially formulated to bring irrigation to the arid and semi arid regions of Rajasthan. Since water is now easily available, people resort lesser to rain water harvesting.
