Rakesh solved some problems of exponents in the following way. Do you agree with the solutions? If not why ? Justify your argument.
(i) x⁻³ × x⁻² = x⁻⁶
(ii) x³/x² = x⁴
(iii) x⁻² = √x
iv) 3x⁻¹ = 1/3x

Dear Student,

All given solutions are wrong. I'll explain why.

(i) x⁻³×x⁻² = x⁻⁶

x⁻³×x⁻² = x⁻³⁻²

x⁻³×x⁻² = x⁻⁵

Hence, given solution is wrong.

(ii) x³/x² = x⁴

x³/x² = x³×x⁻²

x³/x² = x³⁻²

x³/x² = x¹

Hence, given solution is wrong.

(iii) x⁻² = √x

x⁻² = 1/x²

Hence, given solution is wrong.

iv) 3x⁻¹ = 1/3x

3x⁻¹ = 3/x

Hence, given solution is wrong.

Hope this helps you...
