Given :

Width of the room = 30 m =

Speed of ram = 2 m/s

Speed of shyam = 1 m/s

To find :

The total distance traveled by ram when he and shyam was at same position.

Solution :

• Concept used here is that time taken to reach that position will be equal for both ram and shyam

• Let us assume distance travel by ram is x m and therefore

Distance traveled by shyam = 30 - x m

• We know that,

Speed = distance / time

• For ram,

2 m/s = x m / t s

t = x/2

• For shyam,

1 m/s = 30 - x / t s

t = 30 - x / 1

Equating both t values

x/2 = 30 - x

x = 60 - 2x

3x = 60

x = 20 m

• Hence, the total distance traveled by ram when he and shyam was at same position is 20 m
