Ranga definitely had some qualities that made him quite an agreeable fellow. The qualities that endeared him to Shyama were his respectful manners and etiquette, his knowledge of English, and his generous nature. When the narrator went to see him along with the other villagers after his six-month stay at Bangalore, he not only recognized him and greeted him, but also did a thorough Namaskar, by touching his feet. Secondly, when Ranga went to meet him at the narrator's house, he carried oranges for him. Besides these, Ranga's frankness, strange views about marriage, etc. endeared him to the narrator.
