when sewage water mixes with a water body then aerobic bacteria consume the available oxygen and degrade the waste material. this increases the Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD).

BOD is a measure to determine how much polluted a water body is. due to increase consumption by the bacteria, the fishes do not get adequate supply of oxygen and they die.

hence raw sewage is detrimental to fish culture.
