Ethyl acetate reacts with sodium hydroxide when the two are mixed. The reaction, called ester hydrolysis, yields products ethyl alcohol and sodium acetate. The equation is CH3CO2C2H5(aq) + NaOH(aq) --> C2H5OH(aq) + CH3CO2Na(aq)
