Certain oxides of metals like Zn O,  Al2 O3 etc. act with bases and acids both to form salts.

Al2 O3 + 6 H Cl ==> 2 Al Cl3 + 3 H2 O

Al2 O3 + 3 H2 O  + 2 Na OH  ==> 2 Al Na (OH)4
