Read the passage and answer the questions: (05)

In every country people imagine that they are the best and the cleverest and the others are not as good

as they are. The Englishman thinks that he and his country are the best. The French man is very proud

of France and everything French. The Germans and Italians think no less of their countries and many

Indians imagine that India is in many ways the greatest country in the world. This is wrong.

Everybody wants to think well of himself and his country. But really there is no person who has not

got some good and some bad qualities. In the same way, there is no country which is not partly good

and partly bad. We must take the good whenever we find it and try to remove the bad wherever it may

be. We are, of course, most concerned with our own country, India. Unhappily, it is in a bad way

today. Most of our people are poor and unhappy. They have no joy in their lives. We have to find out

how we can make them happier. We have to see what is good in our ways and customs and try to keep

it and whatever is bad we have to throw away.

Questions:

1. What do people think in every country?

2. What do many Indians imagine?

3. What must we do?

4. In what respect is India in a bad way today?

5. What should we throwaway?

Answer:

The given questions can be answered as follows after reading the passage.

Explanation:

1. What do people think in every country?

It is a common thought in every country to imagine that the citizens of that particular country are the best and the most clever. For instance, the British, the French, and the Americans all think that they're the best, which is barely true. The Germans and Italians think no less of their countries and many Indians imagine that India is in many ways the greatest country in the world.

2. What do many Indians imagine?

Most Indians think too much of themselves, and they imagine that India is the greatest country in the world in many different ways.

3. What must we do?

We must inculcate the good we see in every country and try and get rid of the bad from our respective countries, rather than assume that they're the best, thereby not giving any room for change.

4. In what respect is India in a bad way today?

India is a very unhappy country. Most people are poor and don't have enough money to make two ends meet. We are all in a rat race, and badly need to find out how to become happier.

5. What should we throw away?

We must throw away the bad we see and replace them with the good.
