 I got an opportunity to visit an old age home. It is a kind of home for those old people who for some reasons cannot stay with their grown-up children or those who don’t have any family member to care of them or those who have become alone and lonely in their old age owing to circumstances.

I felt very emotional interacting with an old lady. Although she is an affluent woman, she has to live in the home because both her daughters are married and well-settled. Her husband passed away long ago. She said she had opted to live at the Home for many facilities such as safety, security, lodging and boarding, and the most important thing-- company of peers.

I was so sad and depressed to see first time in my life there are such homes where the old people have to live without families. I personally feel people living in such old age homes feel very lonely and abandoned. The old people need their sons, daughters, and grandchildren to live happily. Why is it that in our country the old fathers and mothers cannot live with their married daughters’ families?

I was happy to see the camaraderie among the inmates. They often met in the dining hall at meal timings. In the evening they sat in the park to share their sorrows and joys.

Dear Diary,

• Today I had a chance to visit to old age home in Mumbai along with my friends.
• There I met many old and sick people who were left homeless.
• The home administrators are responsible for maintaining them and looks after their health issues.
• I felt worried about them as they are longing for love and care.
• Those children who leave their parents in old age home are heartless and they need to be warned for their activity.
