when a bullet is fired from a gun then bullet moves in forward direction due to which gun moves in backward direction. the velocity of the gun in backward direction, is called recoil velocity of the gun.
let the mass of guns Mand mass of the bullet is m after firing velocity of bullet is V and velocity of bullet point v then by momentum conservation law
Momentum before firing = Momentum after firing
0= momentum of gun + momentum of bullet
0=MV+mv
-MV=mv
-V=mv/M
may it help you
