SCALE FACTOR AND SIMILARITY
SCALE FACTOR
A scale drawing of an object is the same shape as the object but a different
size.
The scale of a drawing is a comparison of the length used on a drawing to
the length it represents. The scale is written as a ratio.
SIMILAR FIGURES
The ratio of two corresponding sides in similar figures is called the scale

To Find :  distance of the point P from the y-axis is (i) 4 (ii) 15 (iii) 19 (iv) 25

The distance between the points A and S

co-ordinates of the point which divides the line segment joining the

points A and B in the ratio 1:3 internally.

point (x,y) is equidistant from the Q(9,8) and S(17,8),then

Solution:

Position of point P is ( 4 , 8)

Distance for  y axis  = 4

Distance from x axis = 8

distance of the point P from the y-axis is 4 cm

The distance between the points A and S is 16

co-ordinates of the point which divides the line segment joining the

points A and B in the ratio 1:3

A = ( 1, 8)  , B = ( 5 , 10)

(1* 5 +3 * 1)/(3 + 1)  ,  ( 1 *10 + 3*8)/(3 + 1)

2 , 8.5

(iv) (2.0,8.5)

a point (x,y) is equidistant from the Q(9,8) and S(17,8),then

Slope =  0 slope of perpendicular bisector = 1/0

y = x/0 + c

=> x = c   => x  = ( 9 + 17)/2  = 13  => x - 13 = 0
