A shot in the dark:

Informal definition – It is an attempt to estimate something when you have no backup or idea about the subject and therefore cannot possibly know the correct answer.

It is also defined as the conception with very little or no guarantee about its accuracy.

So it is commented as well, this is just a shot in the dark!

An attempt that has no chance to succeed or has very minor chance of working.

It was really just a shot in the dark when a novice tries and fail to do it.
