• take a apparatus with closed circuit consisting of a battery and a switch.
• At anode ( positively charged ) attach impure metal block of copper (Cu ) and at cathode attach a pure metal strip of Cu.
• take a salt solution of Cu, say CuSO4
•The pure Cu+² ions from the impure metal block will be transferred to the thin strip of pure Cu metal at cathode ( negatively charged) and the other impurities present in the metal block will settle down and is called as anode mud.
• the Cu+² will take 2electrons from cathode to complete it's outermost shell. Then it will become Cu- atom from Cu+² ion.
Cu+² (ion) + 2electrons => Cu ( atom)
• In this way the impure metal block will become thinner and the pure metal strip will become thicker. Then we can replace the impure metal block with another impure metal block.
