Rekha's mother is five times as old as her daughter rekha. five years later, rekha's mother will be three times as old as her daughter rekha. find the present age of rekha and her mother's age.

rekha age=y

x+5=3(y+5)
x+5=3y+15
x-3y=10

5y-3y=10
2y=10
y=5

x=5*5
x=25

Let the present age of Mother be x
and Rekha's present age be y

• Mother is five times as old as Rekha.

x = 5y ...... ( i )

• Five Years later

Mother age = ( x + 5 )

Rekha age = ( y + 5 )

# Mother will be 3 times as old as Rekha .

( x + 5 ) = 3 ( y + 5 )

x + 5 = 3y + 15

x - 3y + 5 - 15 = 0

x - 3y - 10 = 0 ..... ( ii )

Putting value of x from ( i ) in ( ii )

x - 3y - 10 = 0

5y - 3y = 10

2y = 10

y = 10/2

y = 5

Putting value of y in ( i )

x = 5y

x = 5 × 5

x = 25

So, the present age of Rekha is ( y ) 5 years and that of her mother is ( x ) 25 years.
