Answer:

A relation R from one set to another set is the well defined relationship between the elements of the ordered pair in the cartesian product of the sets i.e. A × B.

Here, the second element is called the image of the first element.

The first element can also be called as the pre image of the second element.

In short words, Relation is a subset of a Cartesian product of two sets.

Let us take an example:-

Set A = {1, 2, 3}

Set B = {a, b}

Cartesian product = {(1, a), (1, b), (2, a), (2, b), (3, a), (3, b)}

Now, let us assume that the Ration we got = {(1, a), (2, a), (3, a)}

Hence, Relation is observed to be a subset of cartesian product of two namely A and B.
