Each year, World Environment Day is observed by the United Nations family and by communities across the globe to raise awareness about the importance of the environment in our lives. It is a time to reflect, not just about the challenges we face, but on the many initiatives, small and large, that people are involved in the world over to make sure that the world becomes a better, safer, more equitable place for mankind.

DPS Bangalore South commemorated the special day with a host of activities across grades, starting off with an ode to the guru of the school; the students presented Principal ma’am, Ms Manju Sharma with saplings. Students of grade 7 & grade 8 expressed their commitment to the cause in a medium cutting across barriers of age & language - the language of artistic expression. Grade 7 held a poster making competition, while grade 8 had an exhibition on the theme 'Best out of Waste'. Enthusiastic participation in both events showcased the DIPsites creative streak & commitment towards the cause.

While middle school targeted their campaign within the school premises, high school students took up the responsibility of generating awareness beyond the school boundary in theneighbourhood. About 20 students each from grades 9, 10 & 11 held Save the ' Save the Environment' awareness drive in 3 separate locations - Brigade Gardenia apartment complex, Majestic Gardens apartment complex & Gopalan Mall respectively. Armed with banners, flyers & badges; the green crusaders created quite an impact as they assessed public awareness on World Environment Day with a questionnaire. The responses, though encouraging, also point out to the gap in awareness & actual implementation of eco-friendly initiatives like Rain Water Harvesting, Waste Segregation at source & use of alternate energy sources. Showcasing their commitment towards a greener & cleaner world, the students successfully planted the seed of information - with the hope that things will get better, where people have the knowledge, will & commitment.

Hope it will help you

World Environment Day (WED) occurs on 5 June every year, and is the United Nation's principal vehicle for encouraging worldwide awareness and action for the protection of our environment. First held in 1974, it has been a flagship campaign for raising awareness on emerging environmental issues from marine pollution, human overpopulation, and global warming, to sustainable consumption and wildlife crime. WED has grown to become a global platform for public outreach, with participation from over 143 countries annually. Each year, WED has a new theme that major corporations, NGOs, communities, governments and celebrities worldwide adopt to advocate environmental causes.
