 Students will present a report about the Economic development of the Emirates Region in the Pre

Islamic Era.

 Research should specify the growth in the economy of the region based on the trade, ports and

market of the region.

 Sea ports of the UAE have played a major role to enhance the economy of the country. Locate

and mark the major sea ports in the United Arab Emirates.

Format for the research work:

1) Title

2) Summary 100-150 words

3) Introduction-interesting facts—examples with photographs.

4) References—Links—You tube—Books.

5) Stick both the Rubrics for research work and map work with the project.

6) Stick the map also with the project.

7) The project should not be more than 3-4 pages.

8) Project should be submitted by 5th September, 2019.

One of the most important trading center during the pre-Islamic era was Dilmun. The majority of the trade was along the Persian Gulf. During the pre-Islamic era, the export of ivory to the Roman Empire was very popular. Tylos was popular for pearl trading. In the 8th century, Arabs started gold trade with Ghana.

The trade along the east African coast led to the establishment of coastal towns like  Mogadishu, Mombasa, and Kilwa. During the pre-Islamic era, the slave trade was popular among Arabia, central Asia, India and, Europe. Trade on the Swahili coast began when Arabs started to migrate from Arabia to the East African coast because of the political struggle in Arabia.
