Democracy in chile was restored when the dictator of chile augusto pinochet decided to held a refrendum in 1988. He thought that the people were happy with his rule and they will definately vote in favour of him but the results were opposite and the answer was no. And because of the negative results pinochet lost his military powers and slowly the army was owerthrown and the elected govenment was restored with it's first president after dictatorship as Michell Bashelet.
