Rigidity: The property of solids being stiff and resist towards stress is called rigidity. In solids – Rigidity is very high. In liquids – lower than solids but higher than gases. In gases – very low.

this is the property mainlying possessed by solids.
as when they are subjected to external force they have the tendency to maintain to their shape and hence they are rigid.
if there is an excessive external force on the object the object might break.
