Judiciary plays an important role in federal system.

If the federal government were like a basketball game, the judicial branch is much like the referee that helps settle disputes. The executive branch and the legislative branch are often like the players in the game trying to score points against each other, and the judicial branch is there to clarify the rules and make sure each side is acting fairly.

The judicial branch is able to do this through its special power known as judicial review and as part of the process of checks and balances between the three branches of government.

Our courts are Judicial bodies which perform the following functions..

The Constitution of a federation is written and rigid and it divides powers between the centre and the states. There is always an independent judiciary which interprets the Constitution and settles the disputes. India has an independent judiciary free from the influence of the executive and the legislature. The judges are appointed on the basis of their qualifications but they cannot be easily removed by the executive. India has a single integrated judicial system. Justice is not possible only if the judiciary is independent, impartial and unbiased. The judiciary not only protects the rights of the citizens but also resolves various disputes arising out of civil cases, criminal cases and constitutional matters without any pressure from the executive or the legislature. Our Constitution has various provisions which make our judiciary independent and keeps it free from the influence of the legislature and executive. It has the power to supervise and control the working of entire judicial system in India. It ensures justice to all. Whenever a dispute arises regarding property, violation of our rights, abuse of power, violence, exploitation or any other issue related to our day to day life, the matter can be taken to a court of law, to seek justice. The court gives justice to the aggrieved party. Therefore, a federal system of courts under an independent judiciary is the foundation of our democracy.

Hope it helps you.
