Martin Luther was born in 1483 in Eisleben, Saxony in Germany. He was interested in theology and went to the university of Erfurt. In 1508,he entered the order of Austin Frairs in Erfurt and became a Professor. In next 10 years he read widely in his quest of salvation. Luther in beginning was in no way willing to quarrel or go against the Churt. But his visit to Papal Curia in Rome in 1510,the widespread abuse and hypocrisy of the clergy and discontent of the people made Luther change his mind.He attacked the idea of priesthood through books, letters and pamphlets for thirty years and finally the most important aspect of the Roman Catholic Church, the indulgence. The Luther movement spread rapidly in Germany and Protestant Churches were set up all over Germany. The Bishop of Samlund in East Prussia preached Lutheran doctrines in his diocese.
