The following law will help us-------

"The bowler is allowed, before releasing the ball and provided he has not completed his usual delivery swing, to attempt to run out the non-striker. Whether this trial is successful or not, the ball shall not count as one of the over. If the bowler fails in an attempt to run out the non-striker, the umpire will call and signal dead ball immediately."

So, when the bowler starts to run to deliver the ball to Ganguly and Sachin starts to run towards the other end. When the bowler reaches near the non- striker end and till then Ganguly hasn't reached the non-striker end but he has already crossed the half pitch, so the bowler will be able to run him out. The ball becomes eventually dead and Sachin gets onto strike. Now he can score one run to complete his century.
