Surface Tension is a surface property of liquids. The molecules on the surface are attracted towards inside by the molecules inside. This is due to cohesion. This cohesion force acts against the adhesive property between the liquid and its container or floor.

Surface tension is measured as the force required by unit length on the surface. It is also the energy required per unit surface area to maintain its surface.  If a bubble increases in size, then it requires energy to do so. The force stretching its surface has to do that work.

SI units are N/m or J/m^2.

Surface of the liquids inside narrow tubes immersed in a liquid container becomes curved. The liquid along the walls of the tube curves upwards. This is due to surface tension and adhesion.

Surface tension properties are used in cleaning agents and in processes where small gaps or holes are there.

Answer:

Some important things about surface tension

☆Surface tension is a surface phenomenon.

☆Surface tension depends upon nature of liquid, temperature, medium above the surface.

☆Surface tension for a boiling liquid is zero because there is no surface of boiling liquid.

With increase in temperature surface tension decreases because with increase in temperature cohesiv forces between molecules decreases.

☆ lmpurities which are quickly soluble in liquid increases the surface tension .
