Let selling price of 1 chair = x
Let selling price of 1 table = y
Given that, the selling price of 16 chairs is equal to the selling price of 5 chairs.
Therefore,
16 x = 5 y
x = 5/16 y  ......... (1)
Also given that,
the total selling price of 5 chairs and 3 tables is Rs. 780
So,
5 x + 3 y = 780
5 (5 / 16) y + 3 y = 780
(25 / 16) y + 3 y = 780
(25 + 48) / 16 y = 780
(73 / 16) y = 780
y = 780 (16/73)
y = 170.9 or y = 171 Approx.
So price of 1 table = y = Rs. 171
Put this value in equation (1), we get:
x = 5/16 y
x = (5 / 16) (171)
x = 53.4
So, price of 1 chair = x = Rs. 53.4
Now,
Price of 2 chairs and 5 tables = 2 x + 5 y
Price of 2 chairs and 5 tables = 2 (53.4) + 5 (171)
Price of 2 chairs and 5 tables = 106.8 + 855
Price of 2 chairs and 5 tables = Rs. 961.8
which is the required answer.
Thanks.
