Let the number be X

(7/8)X = (1/2)X + 9

(7/8)X - (1/2)X = 9

LCM = 8

(7/8)X - (4/8)X = 9

3X/8 = 9

3X = 9 x 8

3X = 72

Therefore X = 72/3 = 24
