One of the main reasons to avoid Sharp projections in electrical machines is to reduce the Corona effect. As sharp corners create low radius of curvature, so more charges deposit in those areas and hence corona effect increases.

When we touch such edges electrifying effect is sensed. To reduce this, sharp projections are avoided.
