PARAM is a series of supercomputers designed and assembled by the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) in PuneIndia. The latest machine in the series is the PARAM ISHAN. After being denied Cray supercomputers[1], India has started a program to develop indigenous supercomputers and supercomputing technologies.[2][3] This Supercomputers were also capable of assisting in the development of Nuclear Weapons.[4] For the purpose of achieving self-sufficiency in the field, the Center for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) was set up in 1988 by the then Department of Electronics with Dr. Vijay Bhatkar as its Director.[1]

PARAM supercomputer

PARAM is the supercomputer series by institute C-DAC (Pune). The main motive of the C-DAC is to make the most powerful supercomputer for India. PARAM supercomputer is mainly used for the purposed of Space research, Meteorology, Scientific researches, medical treatments and many other purposes. PARAM 8000 is one of the most powerful supercomputer of PARAM series. PARAM 8000 is one of the most powerful supercomputer in the world.

Creation of PARAM supercomputers was originally started in 1980's and from that time, they made huge implementions and today we can see the results. C-DAC have released total 15 versions of PARAM supercomputers yet. PARAM computers are designed on the Intel's processor. And, they have the speeds upto 4 Teraflops which is very huge !

The latest PARAM supercomputer by C-DAC is PARAM Bramha. The highlight of this computer is it's storage. The storage of this PARAM Bramha is 1 PB. And, It can runs on the speed of 0.85 PFLOPs / second.

But, This PARAM Supercomputers are not fastest in India. Pratyush and Mihir supercomputers are the fastest supercomputers in India. They were developed by IITM (Indian institute of tropical meteorology) pune. It can runs at the speed of 6.8 Petaflops. And, it is mainly used for weather predictions. This PC costs 466 crores.
